On 1 September the DFE published individual school’s Value Added scores through the checking website and announced the higher standard threshold.
Higher Standard Threshold in Reading and Maths
The scaled score of 110 or more will be the threshold for pupils performance being viewed as being to a higher standard than expected. Expect this to be shown separately in RAISEonline. There will be a combined measure reported at this level, this year the national average for this measure was 5%. The individual national averages at the higher level were Reading – 19%, Writing – 15%, Maths – 17% and GPS 23%.
As a reminder at the expected standard the national averages were combined – 53%, Reading 66%, Writing 74%, Maths 70% and GPS 72%.

Value Added Progress Scores
School’s individual VA progress scores have been published in Reading, Writing and Maths, together with their confidence intervals and coverage data.
The Government also published its Progress Floor Targets for KS2:
-5 in Reading
-7 in Writing
-5 in Maths
Floor Standards 2016
A school will be above the floor if:
• at least 65% of pupils meet the expected standard in Reading, Writing and mathematics; or
• the school achieves sufficient progress scores in all three subjects.
To be above the floor, the school needs to meet either the attainment or all of the progress elements.
For a school not to have made sufficient progress its subject score must be below the floor target and its score must be significantly below average (i.e. the upper band of its confidence interval has to be below zero).
Writing was teacher assessed and so in order to calculate the value added a scaled score has been allocated to each level of teacher assessment as follows:
